Paul Warren: A Tribute to a Friend and a Brother

*I wish there was some other forum for me to post this in, but I didn’t want to use Facebook (it feels impersonal to me at this point) and this was all I had*

Almost everything we have ever written here has been insanely ridiculous, about sports, and out for a laugh. Today, however, that will not be the case. Today has been a reminder in not taking life for granted and being certain that people in your life, be it friends or family, know that you love them.

Early Thursday morning I, along with everyone that knew him, lost a great friend & brother. Parents lost a son and a wife lost her newlywed husband. There are no words for the sorrow being experienced by those who were close to Paul Warren. P Dub, as we called him at Lipscomb, was one of the finest people I have ever called a friend. While I have no words to ease the hurt myself and others are experiencing, I wanted to share some of my favorite stories about Paul and some of my favorite things about him. I would like you guys to use the comments section to share memories and thoughts about him as well. This post is simply a tribute to our friend, Paul.

*I am a year older than Paul and was on the golf team and in Tau Phi with Paul at Lipscomb. I got to double dip in time spent with Paul. As far as the golf team goes, Paul came in as a freshman and started whipping everyone’s butt. He quickly became number one on the team. As a humble kid, I almost felt like this made him a little bit uncomfortable. Even though he was the best, he never wanted people to think of him as the best.

*Paul Warren could always make you feel like you were the funniest person on the planet. I have no idea if he ever thought anything I said was funny, but I would never have known from his reaction. He laughed every time. If I had a joke or a saying I was thinking about using I could gain confidence in it by saying it around Pdub. On this same point, I also think that Paul just loved to laugh. He enjoyed life.

*Paul was a great guitar player. As good as he was at golf and as hard as he worked at it to get better, he was just as good and worked just as hard at playing guitar. I will never forget the time he and Ralston (the guy in the “T” hat in the picture above with Paul) brought down the house during the Cowboy Show as they played the long guitar solo from Freebird. The entire crowd stood for about 8 minutes. He also played some with Dustin Lynch when Dustin was just getting started playing in bars around Nashville. He was an all around super talented individual.

*As Paul was a year younger than me, he pledged the same social club at Lipscomb that I did a year after I was in. That meant that Paul pledged under me. Pledging was not the easiest thing and pledges weren’t always treated with the kindness and respect most human beings are treated with. Anyone that has ever pledged knows this as fact. But there was something different about pledging Paul. I was talking to another Tau Phi guy (Trevor Brown) earlier and I told him “Paul was SO nice that you felt bad about asking him to do anything for you. You just wanted it to be over so you could hang out with him.” The greatest Paul Warren pledging story is this:   One day, Paul was in charge of completing an active’s (Jon Masters) laundry. This was a common task for a pledge. So Paul does the laundry like he is supposed to and gives it back to Jon. Jon soon notices that the clothes don’t smell clean. You know when you do laundry and you sniff the clothes that you can smell the detergent. Jon couldn’t smell detergent. Jon goes to Paul and says “Paul, when you did my laundry did you use detergent?” Paul gets a distraught look on his face and simply replies “No sir, I forgot.” Needless to say, Paul did the laundry again. No other measures were taken against him because it was so funny that no one could be upset with him.

*Paul was funny, but Paul was never the boisterous guy yelling and cracking jokes to everyone trying to be the center of attention. Paul was funny in a quieter, more dry way. Paul’s funniest moments were brought about by questions from others. I can’t think of any certain answers or one liners he had off the top of my head but I’m sure some of you guys can.

*Paul was up for whatever you wanted him to be up for. Granted, as we have gotten older and moved to different places being “up for whatever” has taken on different meanings. It’s crazy how much you take for granted when you were in college and saw all of your friends every single day. Anyways, one of my last big time memories with Paul has probably been a few years ago now. A buddy of mine wanted me to go play in an invitational golf tournament with him I believe in Dickson, TN. He said see if you can find another guy or two so we can take a group over there. I bet I called 10 people. Out of 10 people, you know who said yes? Paul said “Man, I haven’t played golf or in a golf tournament in a couple years but I’m in. It’ll be fun.” I wish I could say he went out there and won the tournament, but he didn’t. I think we both shot in the 80’s the first day. But we enjoyed being with one another. Paul could always get excited for doing whatever you wanted to do.

I know that many of you that will read this knew Paul even better than I did and will have many more stories and memories to share. Writing is something that helps me clear my head and my head has been full of stuff since this morning. I want to find many ways that we can honor Paul and his life, this just happened to be the one I thought of first. I hope you will take time in the comments to share even more stories and more memories you have of Paul. He will be dearly missed by many. To his wife, Molly, his parents Johnny and Kathy, and his sister Lorie, I am so happy to have known your husband, son, and brother. If we can all strive to wake up as joyful as Paul Warren did everyday this world would be a much better place.

Paul, I love you brother.

  1. Shara Allen Baulsir says:

I grew up in school with Paul. Him, some other guys, my girlfriend and me all walked the same way home in middle school. Paul and the other guys would always walk a little bit in front of my friend and me. Everyday it was warm they would all take the shirts off because “it was so hot outside.” I just remember my friend and me laughing because we knew they were just trying to show off. Which Paul was probably the only 7th grader that even had muscles. Just a memory that always makes me laugh. 🙂

    • Tonya Simpson says:

I am a complete stranger and I didn’t know Paul at all but I watched the story as soon as it hit Breaking News. I live in Lavergne TN and the only thing I could do was pray for everyone. I didn’t know all the details until I saw the pictures on Channel 4 at 11 and my heart was completely saddened of hearing that he was no longer with us. My prayers go out to his wife, family, friends and loved ones. May God continue to lift you and carry you during this time. I just wanted to let you all know that I am so sorry for your loss!! Stay prayerful and God will see you through this

  2. Jordan Lewis says:

Thanks for the great comments and stories about Paul. I knew Paul for a long time and was fortunate enough to be able to hang out and play a lot of golf with him over the years, especially when he worked at Bluegrass Country Club.

He really was a great guy, and always made you feel important while around him. He also had a very dry sense of humor, and would be the funniest guy in the room, but in a very subtle way. He could turn any line into hilarity, and often it took just one line.
Around 2005 I played in the state amateur qualifying at Springhouse, or Gaylord Springs it’s called I think now, and I saw him after the round was over. We talked for a bit and I said “What’d you shoot?” He turned back at me with dry wit and perfect timing with a sly grin and said, “A lot of strokes.” The way he said things it never took more than one line because he packed so much into that one line.

Paul was a great person and a truly kind person. He cared about people. I’ll miss him dearly.

  3. Carter Page says:

I met Paul very early on in my life playing junior golf. After being paired with Paul in several tournaments around Middle Tennessee I quickly realized how special of a guy he was. Always humble, always smiling, and someone who you never had to pretend with, Paul and I became friends immediately. I remember how competitive we would be on the course….how in between shots it was all smiles but how he would be totally focused once he got to his ball. After the shot…the smile and conversation would be back. My game was always elevated playing with Paul. I think this spoke volumes as to the type of man Paul was. I was excited to see Paul join the Lipscomb team a year after I did. There was never any doubt in my mind that he would do great things there.

I think what I’ll remember the most is just how genuine he was. There was no need for him ever to tell you….you just kinda knew… if you needed anything, just ask. Paul let his faith in the Lord shine throughout every facet of his life and I feel extremely blessed to have had the chance to know him. My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I know his smile will live forever in all of us.

  4. Jesse Baker says:

Thank you Aaron. I really appreciate you sharing this.

  5. Erin says:

My husband grew up with Paul in Hendersonville and was his roommate freshman year at Lipscomb. I, unfortunately, never had the chance to meet him. For years, I’ve heard story after story as to the amazing person he was. The stories you’ve shared here are perfect examples of the person my husband has described all these years. Thanks for sharing some of your memories of Paul. I know his friends and family could use these happy memories as strength in the weeks to come.

My prayers are with you and everyone Paul had the chance to know.

  6. Anonymous says:

I’ve known Paul since grade school, and grew up with him where he taught me how to play basketball as a point guard. All of us (several Hendersonville buddies) used to go over to Paul’s house so he could teach us how to play bball as well as he did. He was amazing at EVERYTHING he did (sports, art, singing, etc.) and was just a blessed soul. He was raised by an amazing family that I endear and love. Paul was literally the grade A, All American man, who was fabulous at all he did, while being a conservative, humble, Christian man all along. He is an example to all of us and I wish his family all the sympathy and prayers possible, but know he was called upon for a reason, as he was needed in Heaven to serve a higher purpose. God Bless you, Paul, and your family.

    • Aaron Flener says:

I’m glad you brought the basketball thing up. I forgot that Paul was a good basketball player. He could jump out of the gym. Super athletic for a golfer. A man of many talents he was.

  7. Current LU Student says:

I never had the chance to meet Paul, but as a current LU student, I don’t have enough words to express my sadness for his family and his wife.

  8. Anonymous says:

I think of Paul as being about 6 years old at my nephew’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. I’m so glad to know he got the Warren Musical Gene. (Google or You Tube his grandfather and namesake. One of the finest fiddlers ever!) My heart goes out to Johnny, Kathy, and the entire Warren Family. Thank you for giving those of us who knew him from a distance a better insight to this fine young man.

  9. Anonymous says:

Many, many prayers for his wife and family. My heart aches for them.

  10. Angie says:

I do not know this family but my heart breaks for everyone who knew him. My prayers are for his wife, family and many friends.

  11. Nate says:

I went to college with Paul at LU, and got to know him pretty well through Tau Phi Fraternity. I first got to know Paul trough our love for basketball. Paul had a textbook jump shot, and as Flener mentioned, he had great leaping ability (which was very surprising since he was an averagely built golfer). I also got to know Paul through our love for music. We’d routinely play the classics jams at “Mayfair” for hours on end. I’ve got nothing but positive memories.

I will always remember Paul for his great smile, sincerity, and his sense of humor. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen him lose his cool. Nor can I remember him gossiping or bad mouthing anyone. He chose to keep a positive attititue and outlook on life. I pray for comfort and healing to Paul’s family and friends. May God bless you.

  12. Ashlee Cook says:

My heart is so sad to hear this news! I know that being in a fraternity and sorority at LU was like having in an extended family! LU had lots of great people but I have to say that I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the men of Tau Phi. I know that I can speak on behalf of my Gamma Lambda sisters by saying that we send our sincerest condolences to Molly, Paul’s family and his Tau Phi brothers! I will be sporting my Green & White tomorrow in honor of his memory!

  13. My prayers are with the families. As a member of the TN PGA I know we are all thinking of the Warren family during this time.

  14. Eric Heath says:

Paul was quite possibly one of the nicest and most humble guys I’ve ever met. I first met Paul in elementary school playing basketball at recess. It became clear very quickly that if you wanted to win then you would have to somehow get Paul on your team. One of the greatest things about Paul was that he never seemed to acknowledge how good he was at really anything even though he was great at so many things. I remember sitting in English class our Sophomore year of high school at HHS talking about girls. Paul was asking me for advice about how to get a girl’s number which at the time both of us were fairly clueless about. Paul was so incredibly shy and unaware that he no idea that half the girls in our class had a huge crush on him. In fact, my first real girlfriend told me about her huge crush on Paul and I intentionally kept it a secret from him just so he wouldn’t snatch her up. I just didn’t want to compete with a guy like Paul Warren. I always admired Paul and he’ll be greatly missed by many. My prayers are with his wife Molly and his family.

  15. Laura Williams says:

Paul was a student of mine in the College of Business…after several years, students’ names and faces start to run together but Paul will always be a student I will remember. He was always smiling, always kind, and always respectful. He usually had a joke, too, which I appreciate. I’m not completely sure, but I think Paul was in my class the semester he pledged…and he still smiled even through pledging, which is quite an accomplishment. Having students like Paul Warren make my job a blessing. My heart hurts for his wife, his family, and all of his friends. May God bless you each in special ways that can only come from Him with the most precious reminders of Paul every day!

  16. Jo Beth Heinly says:

Paul Jackson Warren was a very special person. Aaron, you hit the nail on the head, he was certainly one of the funniest people I had ever met. I will never forget laughing with him. He was created by two of the most loving people I have ever known. Johnny and Kathy are such an amazing couple, and they love their children with such passion. For obvious reasons, I have lost contact with Paul over the years. However, I’ll never forget sitting at Mayfair with some of the elite eight singing Free Bird while Paul and Ralston played guitar until the wee hours of the morning. He loved his friends so much. He was never jealous when they accomplished something, instead he had a sense of pride for them. He was an encourager. If you were doubting yourself, he would somehow convince you that you were amazing at whatever it was you were doubting. He loved to do special things for people. He loved making people smile. He loved Tau Phi (and almost cut my hand off when I tried to touch the green book). He loved the game of golf and was absolutely incredible at it. Although time has passed, I can still remember the love he had for his sister Lorie and his family. I am praying for them and his new bride, Molly, during this tough time. Paul Warren, (P Dub), will never be forgotten. I will always smile when I think about him. I will never forget the sound of his laugh when he got really tickled at something. May God wrap his arms around the Warren family right now. You are all in my prayers.

    Jo Beth Heinly

  17. Melissa says:

I knew Paul from the Volunteer Bank where he worked. So kind and always smiling.

  18. Brittney Martel says:

I have known Paul my whole life pretty much…we grew up together. Meeting in Elementary school and being friends through High School. Paul was my first “boyfriend”…well we were as much of a boyfriend and girlfriend as two little kids could be. He was such a wonderful friend growing up. And in High School, the sweetest teenage boy in the whole school. Always smiling, always polite. Always amazing. My heart is absolutely broken for his family. His mom and dad and sister, whom my family knows very well. And I know his new wife Molly is just beyond devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with all who knew Paul as we are all grieving together. What a tragic loss and such a sad day for so many. It doesnt matter how much time you spend apart from someone, when a bond has been established, it can never be broken. Love you Paul.

  19. Anonymous says:

While I barely knew Paul through Lipscomb and Tau Phi, so many of you who loved him are sweet friends of mine. Love you all, and thinking of you. I simply cannot imagine how Molly and his parents and friends must feel today.

  20. Wanda Lannom says:

Will always remember when Blake started playing golf at HHS and who were some of his role models but Paul Warren and Brad Baker. We sometimes referred to you all as The Big Three. Will remember, too, that beautiful smile! Many wonderful and very special “Making Memories Moments” I call them. I remember the first time I ever shared my ability to imitate a frog and he laughed so hard with that Paul Warren laughter. SO THANKFUL God Blessed my life with his friendship! Praying God’s Peace for ALL. Love you Bunches Paul!

  21. Nathan Williams says:

Paul was my best friend. I always told him if I died, I wanted him to marry my wife because he’d be better than me. We shared soooo many laughs over the years. He was the best man in my wedding – the best man I could have ever had. He threw me in the swimming pool after the reception, which was hilarious, btw. He was the best….always quick with a laugh, sincere, goofy, sweet, etc. I’ve never known another person so comfortable in his whitey-tighties! Even as I write this, it hasn’t hit me fully that I will never get a call from him again or be able to share a funny story. We always told each other “I love you”, which is kinda weird I suppose, but I’m glad I told him last week because it’s true. Is it ok to be mad about this? There was no one better than P Dub.

  22. Brooke Sawyer says:

I am very sorry for your loss. I will keep you and his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers. Even though I didn’t know him, I read it anyways, and I’m glad I did. Because in some way, it touched my life. And I thank you for that.

    God bless.

  23. melissa says:

My sincere thoughts and prayers are with friends and family of this young man. I’m just someone who heard the news…and all I can do is pray.

I enjoyed reading your blog describing a very caring and talented young man. He will be missed, but in out times of such extreme sadness and loss of understanding, we must turn to our Almighty Father. He will comfort us in only ways He can….

Thank you for sharing your story.

  24. Ashley Miller says:

I will always remember Paul as kind, genuine and someone who truly never had a bad thing to say about anyone. There just aren’t many people like that and it was definitely a rare thing to find in a college boy! Even though I didn’t see him much since college I am thankful for the times that he would come over and play guitar with my husband Nate (and Ralston and whoever else showed up) in our garage…he was so talented and I especially loved when they would get going on a song they liked and not be able to end it 🙂 My last memory of him is sitting in the sun, next to his bride to be, with his straw hat on and playing the guitar this fall…and after they left Nate and I talked about how clearly smitten they were with each other.
Molly, his family, and long list of friends are all in my continued prayers…

  25. Seth Correll says:

I only met P Dub a couple times on my visits to Nashville. I met him through “Kooter” and the other Tau Phi guys and I’ll never forget my 1st P Dub encounter. I arrived in Nashville and was told to drive directly to Big Body’s house which was an experience in itself. I won’t go in to details but I’ll say Lance is undefeated against P Dub. It was definitely the highlight of the night and Big Body reving up his Tahoe at 2am was a close 2nd. People that know me know that I always try to look for a silver lining and stay positive but this is testing my faith because it just doesnt make sense and words can not express how broken my heart is at the moment for his family, his wife and his Tau Phi brothers that I’ve come to know and love over the years. He will be missed and P Dub definitely left the world a better place than when he found it. The world lost a great young man but Heaven gained an Angel. The only thing that gives me a hint of comfort is that WE WILL ALL see P Dub again.

  26. Barbara Balsbaugh says:

I did not know Paul, but I did volunteer work with his mother at Ellis Middle School, and she is one of the sweetest ladies that I have ever met. Paul was raised by wonderful parents. My heart goes out to her and the entire family. Tragically, I too lost my daughter, Beth, in a car accident at the age of 26. I know their pain all to well and the numbness they will feel for a long time to come. My advise to them is to lean on your friends and family for support and cherish the memories of Paul.

  27. Molly Koontz Ridenhour says:

I never met Paul but know what a dear friend he was to my brother, Luke. My heart breaks for his family and friends as they struggle to deal with his untimely passing. Thank you for sharing these thoughts that allowed me to see what a great-hearted person and friend Paul was to all of you guys. My prayers are with his family and friends right now. May they be comforted knowing he is now with Jesus!

  28. Dede Walls says:

I did not know Paul but his wife is the grandaughter of Wilbur Cates who is a great friend and a wonderful man! Your tribute was very moving what wonderful momories you have of him. I am Praying for his family and friends to find healing in this hard time. God Bless you.

  29. Nate Hill says:

I played golf with Paul at LU. I don’t think I ever heard Paul ever say a negative thing about anyone. He always had a great attitude and was easy to be around. I don’t know what to say when someone is taken way before their time. Paul we will miss you! Hope to play 18 with you when I get where I’m going…

  30. Anonymous says:

I didn’t know Paul very well, but I could always tell he was a good person. He was actually my banker at Volunteer State Bank and he had helped me with a lot of stuff there. The thought of him being gone doesn’t even hit reality to me. Everytime I would see him out. He would always have a smile on his face. He was such a genuine person. He is going to be missed by so many time. I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet him.

  31. Cheryl says:

I didn’t know Paul personally, but have several friends that knew him. My heart goes out to his new wife, family, and friends. I pray that God wraps His arms around everyone during this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss. Everything I have heard about Paul, he sounds like he was a fantastic guy, but that isn’t surprising given how sweet his mom is. God bless all of you and may you find some comfort in your memories of Paul.

  32. Cory Elliott says:

I’ve known Paul since grade school.. He always was a great kid and truely turned into a great man. It’s sad to think that such a great guy’s life was taken so short. My family’s thoughts and prays are with his family and Molly. Paul I really hate not getting to know you better than I did. All of Hendersonville is talking about you and how great you where and, probally will for awhile cause there was no one like you from what I have heard. Once again to the family WE ARE TRUELY SORRY.

  33. Michael Stewart says:

I spent all day yesterday thinking of all the early years that Paul and my son growing up together playing basketball going to church and birthday parties. One thing you could see early on was Paul’s ability to handle the ball and shoot the eyes out of it he was just fun to be around .When i read all the comments everybody has written you just saw Jesus in Paul his example is how we all should live our lifes the bible says the first shall be last and the last shall be first and thats what Paul did.My heart goes out to my brother Johnny, Kathy , Lori and Molly. We love you Paul

  34. I did not know this man, but my hearts and prayers are with his family and friends. You wrote a nice tribute to him.

  35. Anonymous says:

I grew up with Paul from the time we could hit the grass running, we did. We chased each other and the little 2 year olds we were< i called him my Paw Paw. It has been awhile since I have seen the Man I called my Best Childhood friend but life just seemed to have taken us in different directions for what would be the rest of his time on earth. I would give anything i owen to have spoken to him one more time. We p[layed Golf together in the summer, and yes, he was very good and would very quietly whip my butt but as many of you noted, Paul never was about Paul. He just wanted to be there playing and having a great time. I miss my friend and pray for his wife and family. I also reflect on my time with Paul and even Johhny, and I move forward with a "Paul" smile, which would warm a heart from faster than anything elsewhere. Paul, Watch over us with my DAD and help us to be better. I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven!!!!!

  36. Mandie Yeager says:

I didn’t know him that well, but i did see him day to day at school- for several years. It is troubling to hear of anyone passing, but when it is someone that i knew personally, and that is just starting out life i just pray for his family.

  37. Day says:

We are from Murfreesboro, TN and do not know Paul but heard about his passing. We read all the tributes and were deeply touched. May his friends & family find solace, comfort & strength in the months ahead. Our deepest sympathies go out to his parents, his sister and especially his new wife Molly– our heart aches for you.
Please know that Paul truly sounds like a man we would want our own 2 year old son to become.

  38. The Clinards says:

My husband, daughter and I knew Paul through business, the bank (The New Shackle Island branch) We were so sad to hear about Paul. He was a wonderful and kind person. He always walked out of his office when we would go into the bank and chat. He always asked about my daughter and how we were all doing. We are glad we had the opportunity to know him. He was great guy. We are and will continue to pray for Paul’s family and friends.

  39. Becky Major says:

On Thursday morning, my son Ralston called me, asking me how I was doing, and then proceeded to tell me about the freakish fog that appeared out off nowhere on an overpass on I-65 earlier that morning…he said P Dub was on his way to work, and he crashed into an 18-wheeler mail truck, and that he was airlifted to a hospital, but he didn’t make it….I burst into tears, saying “No, Ralston, no, not P Dub!” Not only was Paul Warren one of my son’s best friends from Lipscomb, but I was very fond of him, too. He was THE NICEST GUY EVER that Ralston brought home to LaGrange! Paul and Ralston were tight…they played their guitars together (with me being one of their biggest fans!), and since their college days they made it a priority to get together whenever possible. I LOVE ALL MY LIPSCOMB KIDS (with four children all going to Lipscomb, 2000-2015, there are many!) Paul brought Molly to Chattanooga to meet Ralston and Amanda before he proposed….Paul and Ralston did a triathlon together during their college days….when we ordered Ralston’s linen suit for his Costa Rican wedding, i measured Paul and ordered him one, too…. Paul was there for Ralston when he had his big pre-wedding party in McMinnville, TN, with Paul and Ralston, along with Nate Miller and John Woody (Ralston’s younger brother) entertaining us with their musical skills (they really were good!) Paul has been a constant in Ralston’s life since college, and my heart breaks for him. There are no words for Paul’s family to express the hurt I feel for you deep down side…I have prayed for you nonstop…Johnny, Kathy, Lorie, and Molly….I loved your son, brother, and husband…Paul was one of a kind, a blessing to all who met him, and he will be forever loved and remembered by our family as the kindest, sweetest, soft-spoken young man that we had the opportunity to call a friend.

  40. Joyce Williams says:

My son Phillip played golf for Gallatin High School….and if you are from this area you know that Gallatin and Hendersonville High have a rivalry that goes back many years……at this time both schools had very competitive golf teams….and very good teams….My son Phillip played against Paul and loved it…Pillip’s senior year he was diagosed with Leukemia. It was right after the Golf season and the HHS golf team was right there praying for Phillip…that is where the rivalry stopped…HHS golf team of 2002 has this families heart……Phillip is healthy now and cancer free….His family prayed for Phillip..now Phillip’s family is praying for Paul’s family….To Johnny…Kathy….Lorie and Molly …our hearts are breaking for all of you…..and you are in our prayers…..Paul will live on in your hearts…..With Love, Phillip’s Family….Steve, Joyce, Christy,Phillip,Gregory and Joey

families heart…..and we will remember Paul with LOVE and RESPECT…his smile would light up a room….Paul and Phillip have the same quick wit…..We are praying for his wife …Mom and Dad and his sister….

All these stories are a tribute to my buddy. I worked with Paul for 6 years. He was someone that wanted to please everyone even if it took away from his day. Paul always operated with a smile and a true conviction. For me personally, there are few people younger than me that i actually look up to and want to model myself after. Paul was that guy and he has changed my outlook on life forever.

  43. Eric Jackson says:

Thanks for sharing your experiences with Paul. He was an amazing individual and will be sorely missed by all his friends in the Rotary Club of Hendersonville as well.

Paul was one of my absolute closest friends. We met my freshman year at LU through our mutual friend Brad Baker. I will miss the long nights of pickin “guit-fiddles” and belting out any Skynyrd songs we could remember, even if we forgot the lyrics we’d just make em up. I taught Paul to fly fish and witnessed him catching his first fish on a fly and his first trout on a fly. He tried to teach me to hit a golfball, but after slicing one off the driving range onto the #1 fairway we decided it was time to go. I had the honor of him being a groomsman for my wedding and was supposed to be in his but had a conflict. The phone call I got from Brad that Thursday morning will be forever burned into my memory. The past couple of weeks have been some of the hardest times for me, but have also been great times. A lot of us got together at one of Paul’s favorite restaurants, Blackstone Brewery, and spent a few hours recalling some of our favorite P-dub stories. It brought back a lot of good memories of one of the finest men I have had the honor of knowing. Dub you are and will be greatly missed. I love you brother!

I Also was blessed to know Paul. I worked with him on a school project and performed along side of him in the cowboy show. He was a very passionate you man and we will miss him dearly.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard Paul had passed away. I kept thinking that surely it wasn’t the Paul Warren that I knew. He and his family are some of the most sincere, loving, and genuine people on this earth. It breaks my heart still to this day that the Warrens will be without Paul especially this time of year around the holidays. My family became very close with the Warrens because of golf. When my brother, Lorie, Paul and I would get together my face would literally hurt from laughing so much. Paul was a man who never stopped smiling. He never complained. It was like he was just excited to be anywhere, doing anything. I miss Paul dearly and I am heartbroken for his family and wife. Paul lived a life that any parent, sibling, wife, or friend would be proud of. And the one thing I take comfort in is that I will see him again someday. Until then I’m sure he has never stopped smiling!

I was just thinking about Paul, as I do everyday, and remembered this webpage. Thanks for keeping it up, Flener. It’s good to reminisce.
